Welcome to the Eyabantwana Border 1000 Cycle Race! This iconic race, now proudly presented by Spargs, is one of the most anticipated cycling events in the Eastern Cape. In addition to offering an exciting challenge for cyclists of all ages and skill levels, the race serves as a fundraising initiative to support Eyabantwana Trust’s mission for children’s surgical care in local government hospitals.

This year, the Border 1000 Cycle Race is officially sanctioned by Cycling South Africa and will serve as the Amatole District Championships, where competitors’ results will contribute to their district rankings. With scenic landscapes and a thrilling mix of distances, this event promises to test your limits and deliver an unforgettable experience.

The event has received support from the Buffalo City Traffic Department and the Provincial Traffic Department, ensuring a safe and secure race. This is an “open road race,” which means roads will remain open to traffic, so cyclists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to race guidelines.

Distances & Categories

Whether you’re an elite cyclist or a beginner, there’s a category for everyone. The race features four distances, each designed to cater to various age groups and skill levels, including a fun option for Mountain Bikes, E-Bikes, and Tri-Bikes.

Race Distances:

  • 100km: Thomas River Turnoff via N6 to Spargs, Beacon Bay
  • 75km: Stutterheim (Spar) to Spargs, Beacon Bay
  • 38km: McLean Town to Spargs, Beacon Bay
  • 20km: Python Park to Spargs, Beacon Bay

Important Notes:

  • Online Entries Close: 20th January 2025
  • Late Entries: Accepted during registration on the 31st January and 1st February 2025, with an additional Late Entry fee of R50.00.

Start Times by Distance

  • 100km – Start Time: 07h00
  • 75km – Start Time: 07h45
  • 38km – Start Time: 07h00
  • 20km – Start Time: 08h00

We recommend that all cyclists arrive at least 30 minutes before their start time for check-in, warm-up, and a race briefing.
